Growing up in Grenada, MS, I think I’ve always been destined to be a hair stylist. My mom was a licensed hair stylist and owned her own salon for a short time, and friends and family would come and get their hair done in my kitchen regularly. Sitting there watching my mother, I was so fascinated and enthralled by the process of cutting and coloring hair as a child. The way the hair shined and looked so silky and the transformation of someone’s whole appearance with a few snips with shears was like magic in my eyes.
Graduating high school and floating between school and different careers, at 21, I received tons of encouragement and finally made the decision to go to school to follow in my mother’s footsteps as a hair stylist. After my first day at the Academy of Hair Design in Grenada, I knew that hair is what God intended for me to do, and I couldn’t believe I had waited song long to start my journey as a stylist!
After working in my hometown of Grenada for two wonderful stylists that taught me so much, I just felt the need to spread my wings a little and I had the opportunity to move to Oxford, Ms. I actually was very intimidated and had to rebuild my clientele basically from the ground up! It was tough but I’m so glad I’ve stuck it out. I’ve lived here in Oxford for 3 years now, with prayer and some persistence I’ve successfully built myself back up! I really love the atmosphere, people, and how beautiful the town of Oxford is.
Grenada, being only about 45 mins away, means I still get to see my parents and family a good bit. They’re such a big support and have always went above and beyond to make sure I’ve reached my goals I have set for myself. I have to mention my 4 year old nephew that I absolutely adore, I refer to him as my mini-me. Luckily, he’s always loved coming to see his “D” for his big boy hair cut!
Now 27 years old, I’ve now been doing hair as a licensed cosmetologist for almost 5 years. I specialize in balayage, colors, cuts, men’s cuts, brow waxing, and makeup. I also love to do hair and makeup for pageants and weddings with the hope of making you feel the most beautiful for your special occasions.
With all that being said I feel like I have made wonderful friends and a great life for myself here in Oxford. I’m so very thankful to now call Amara Salon my work home and Oxford my home! Also everyone at Amara Salon I consider family! To have them and to be able to continuously learn and be in such a positive uplifting work environment is truly a blessing.
Thank you all for your love and support throughout the years. I look forward to seeing you in my chair soon.
